POISONS IN OUR HOMES (12 - 2000)
We are being poisoned in our own homes.
Over 100,000 man made chemicals have been added to our environment in the past 50 years. Over 1,000 new chemicals are developed each year. Wherever we live there are probably more than 250 synthetic industrial chemicals in our bodies.
The incidence of some childhood cancers has increased by as much as 30%. Overall, cancer is now the second leading cause of death in children. Asthma has increased by 40 percent since 1980, becoming the leading cause of hospital admissions for urban children. Testicular cancer among teens is up by 60 percent. Children are 6.5 times more likely to develop leukemia if their families use pesticides at home. The risk is 9 times as great for children whose parents regularly use pesticides indoors.
We are all being poisoned everyday, without our knowledge and without our consent. The poisons are in the air, water, food, the ground, and in our homes. People are under the misconception that their local state and federal governments are protecting their communities from being poisoned. The reality is that the local, state, federal governments and courts are and have been working in concert with the poisoning industries to prevent the citizens from knowing that they are being poisoned and also preventing the citizens, once they know they are being poisoned, to be able to stop these actions.
Pesticides are present in at least 38 percent of government analyzed food samples. Seventy known carcinogenic pesticides are sprayed on food crops.
Poisons enter our homes in many different disguises. They can enter our home through our faucets, in our drinking water.
Poisons are also released into the air. Indoor air pollution levels usually exceed outdoor levels, because building materials and consumer products exude chemicals into the air. This poison laden air remains trapped inside buildings.
Moth crystals and room deodorizers are designed to maintain high levels of p-dichlorobenzene in the air. P-dichlorobenzene is a known neuro- toxin and carcinogen.
Poisons are entering our homes in plastics, plastic children toys, plastics used for floorings, wall coverings, shower curtains, and food wraps. These poisons are called plasticizers and many are known to be endocrine disrupters (These chemical poisons are seen by our body as if they were hormones or enzymes). They can be biologically active in concentrations that are beyond our ability to measure.
Stop the poisons from entering your home and your family.
Avoid unhealthy poison laden building materials, furnishings and household cleaning products, air deodorizers and synthetic fragrances.
Eliminate using flexible poly vinyl chloride (PVC) plasticized plastics, found in children toys and food wrap. Eliminate poison laden foods. Buy organic produce. Eliminate the use of pesticides. Use alternative methods to control house hold insects.
This is just a starting place in the elimination of poisons from your home. Here are some organizations and links that can help educate you to some of the poisons that are entering your home and family, as well as some alternatives to these poisons.
