The Death of a Tree

LAWN AND GARDEN POISONS ( 3 - 2001)

Beware of hidden dangers in your lawn and garden care products. The E.P.A. in a survey, stated that 82 % of U.S. households use pesticides of some kind. Weed killers are used by about 50 % of U.S. families.
Children are 6.5 times more likely to develop leukemia if their families use pesticides. Leukemia and brain cancer account for 50 % of childhood cancers. More than 12,000 pesticides are registered for use in New York state.
Be alert to the word “INERT” written on labels of lawn and garden care products. By law corporations do not need to identify “INERT” ingredients that often make up to 99.8% of their product. Almost 400 “INERT” ingredients are now or have been used as active killing ingredients in pesticides.
We must not continue to support this dangerous destructive and harmful way of “caring” for our lawns and gardens. Organic gardening and lawn care concentrates on improving the health of the soil and the health of lawns and plants. The healthier the lawn and plants are the less susceptible they are to weeds, insects and disease.
Here are some pesticide poisons that some retailers and manufactures want you to use on your landscaping. Next to each is a link explaining how these poisons will affect you and your family.
